THE FAMILY is a psychological drama about the practising homosexual physician, JOHN (40s), who loves his wife ELLEN (40s) and son STEVEN ( 8 ) - as well as his 20-year younger secret lover PAUL (20s). John's double life weighs very heavily on his conscience, but he's incapable of doing anything about it because he is equally in love with both and afraid of losing them. But when Ellen strikes up a friendship with Paul - both of them in search of the love and attention they don't get from John - and both unaware of John's relationship with the other - John is forced to do that which he fears most...even though he tries at first to prevent the exposure of his double life. Is it fair that we mortals cannot have it both ways...? That love is monogamous?
